Oak Harbor Receives $950,000 in Funding for Road Repairs
OAK HARBOR, WA — June 8th, 2025 - Island County Regional Transportation Board Appropriates $950,000 in Funding to Oak Harbor!
On June 25th, the Island Regional Transportation Planning Organization (IRTPO) Executive Board voted to allocate $950,000 in federal funding in 2025 to the City of Oak Harbor for design and permitting of improvements to Midway Boulevard.
Midway Boulevard is a key arterial through the City’s commercial business district and extends about 1.2 miles from highway SR20 in the north to Pioneer Way and the harbor in the south. The IRTPO was facing the loss of approximately $1.1 million in federal funding this fall.
City Public Works Director, Steve Schuller stated, “Fortunately for the City and the Region, the City of Oak Harbor has a recent track record of successful project completion both at the federal and state level.”
At the July 1 Council meeting, Mayor Ronnie Wright plans to further update the City Council and the community. Mayor Wright stated, “The timing fits perfectly with the Redevelopment of the Downtown and Waterfront District, and the State project to improve Highway SR20 scheduled to begin design in 2027 with $30 million in project funding.”
