[ARCHIVED] West Whidbey Avenue Construction and Detour Updates

West Whidbey Avenue Road Closure Map with Routes To School

The City’s contractor is working to complete vital road work on West Whidbey Avenue with the start of school approaching and the City is providing update an update on detours.

West Whidbey Avenue is closed from Oak Harbor Street to Jib Street on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The roadway will be open before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m. on weekdays. The road is also open on weekends.

A detour is available from West Whidbey Avenue by turning left on S. Oak Harbor Street, right on SW 3rd Avenue (continuing on SW 3rd Avenue until it turns into NW Jib Street and Wildcat Way). Signs will be posted, and flaggers will be on the street to help direct traffic.

West Whidbey Avenue will be open to local traffic only, but not school and through traffic. Garbage and mail service will continue to be available during the project and road closures.

Per City Administrator Blaine Oborn, “We are excited to see the completion of this vital thoroughfare project. I appreciate the work of our Public Works staff and the contractors.”

The City wants to remind everyone to slow down when driving and near schools, especially when taking a detour through neighborhoods. Plan for traffic delays to avoid rushing. Let’s work together to keep our community safe. Obey the street signs and construction flaggers to ensure safety.
