Sept. 30, 2025Contact: Eric Zackula, communication, 206-586-1306SR 20 to close for two nights beginning Oct. 1 north of Oak HarborOAK HARBOR – Westbound and eastbound State Route 20 will close at West Fakkema Road from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Wednesday, Oct. 1 through Friday morning, Oct. 3 near Oak Harbor. Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will have completed most of the construction on the compact roundabout during the five-day, full closure of SR 20 Fri., Sept. 26 through the morning of Wed., Oct. 1. Rain prevented paving of the roadway during the extended closure. The nightly closures, Wednesday, Oct. 1 through Friday morning, Oct. 3, will allow paving preparations to be made on the project. Additional nightly closures will be needed for paving. Detours - Eastbound and westbound SR 20 travelers should use West Ault Field Road and Goldie Road to detour around the construction area.
- Local traffic on the east side of SR 20 should use Sleeper Road and Crescent Harbor Road.
Once complete, the new roundabout will slow vehicle speeds near the intersection, calm traffic and help create easier decisions for drivers. The roundabout also will feature a center island that large trucks can drive over, making it easier for them to navigate.
