[ARCHIVED] Oak Harbor Sewage Treatment Plant Receives Outstanding Performance Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oak Harbor Sewage Treatment Plant Receives 'Outstanding Performance Award’ for 2024

OAK HARBOR, WA — August 25th, 2025 - The Department of Ecology in the State of Washington just released the best performing wastewater treatment plants of 2024.

As the news release states, “Washington has more than 300 wastewater treatment plants, and each one needs certified operators to keep these facilities running smoothly — and to ensure they protect water quality and public health.”

The award is given based on key performance factors. These include meeting numeric effluent limits, monitoring water quality, and submitting reports on time. Winning this award shows the dedication that Oak Harbor plant operators have, going above and beyond to meet standards and serve us as a city.

Jon Kenning, head of the Ecology’s Water Quality program, talks about the very important role plant operators hold. “Wastewater infrastructure is something many of us don’t think about, while operators are thinking about it every day. Wastewater treatment operators help ensure clean water for our communities and the environment. Their work often goes unseen, but it benefits everyone in our state.”

Congrats to the Oak Harbor wastewater team for making the cut!
