Navy to host four public meetings to address its drinking well water investigation near NAS Whidbey Island properties

NAVAL AIR STATION WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. – The U.S. Navy will host four public meetings to inform the community about its recent and ongoing efforts to test drinking water wells in sampling areas near Naval Air Station Whidbey Island for certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

These meetings will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2005, at the Coupeville Recreation Hall from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and again from 5-7 that evening.

The other two meetings will be held in Oak Harbor on April 30, 2025, as the Elks Lodge from 12:30-2:30 p.m. and again from 5-7 that evening.

These PFAS substances may be present in drinking water wells due to past use of firefighting foam or other PFAS-containing materials on base. The meetings will feature detailed informational displays about drinking water sampling near the Area 6 Landfill, Ault Field, and Outlying Landing Field Coupeville.

The Navy is working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington State Department of Ecology, Washington State Department of Health, and Island County Public Health Department. Representatives from these agencies will be available to answer questions and provide information.

If your drinking water comes from a well located in the sampling areas and the Navy has not previously tested it, or you received a letter requesting to resample your well due to previous laboratory limitations, the Navy is requesting to sample your well at no cost to you.

You may schedule a drinking water well sampling appointment at any of the public meetings, by calling and leaving a message at 1-844-WHI-PFAS (1-844-944-7327), or by emailing naswi.pfas@jacobs.com. Please include your name, sample property address, and phone number.

We are committed to keeping the public informed of the Navy’s drinking water sampling. For more information, please visit our website at: https://pacific.navfac.navy.mil/NASWIPFAS.
