Oak Harbor, WA, November 14, 2023 --- Mayor Bob Severns selects Interim Police Chief Tony Slowik as the new Police Chief for Oak Harbor Police Department with the full endorsement of Mayor-Elect Ronnie Wright.
Chief Kevin Dresker retired from the Oak Harbor Police Department on November 30, 2023, after seven years of service at the City of Oak Harbor Police Department and 35 years in law enforcement. Mayor Severns promoted Captain Slowik to the position of Interim Police Chief.
Mayor Bob Severns has decided to negotiate a contract for the Chief of Police position with Interim Police Chief Tony Slowik, noting,
“Tony Slowik is the right choice for Police Chief, and both Mayor Elect Ronnie Wright and I agree. I am excited to present the Chief of Police contract to the City Council at the December 19, 2023 City Council Meeting. Tony is an extremely talented law enforcement professional with the experience to lead our Police Department.”
Interim Chief Slowik has an extensive law enforcement career and military experience. He has served with the Oak Harbor Police Department for 20 years and was the Interim Director of ICOM. Interim Chief Slowik also has a 27-year service record with the United States Coast Guard. Recently, he graduated from the FBI National Academy, a premier program for law enforcement leaders.
