[ARCHIVED] Report of Possible Bear Sighting

The Oak Harbor Police Department received a report of a possible bear sighting at a residence near the 800 block of SW Erie Street. The sighting occurred the evening of July 6th and was not reported until the next day. Officers responded to the area and located a bear print and bear scat. Wildlife Agents with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife were notified of the sighting while the Oak Harbor Animal Control Officer checked the surrounding area; no additional sightings have been reported at the time of this press release.

If you encounter a bear, please keep a safe distance and do not approach. Please keep pets inside or under supervision, and do not leave food or garbage outside unsecured. Additional information can be found on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website https://wdwf.wa.gov.
