The City is closing portions of West Whidbey Avenue starting July 5th for a road construction project that will replace an aged water main, replace a failing storm sewer main, and provide full roadway paving.
Sections of West Whidbey Avenue between Northwest Fairhaven Drive and North Oak Harbor Street will close starting July 5. Then sections of West Whidbey Avenue between Northwest Jib Street and Northwest Fairhaven Drive will close. Closing the roadway will expedite the road construction project. The plan is to complete roadway work before fall when students go back to school. The project timeline is dependent on weather conditions.
Drivers should plan ahead, look for alternative routes, and watch for detour signs. Please slow down in work zones to keep City staff and contractors safe when they are working on roadways.
