Residential Garbage

The City of Oak Harbor offers three types of collection, garbage, recycling, and yard waste.

Collection Trucks

The City of Oak Harbor has two automated side arm loader garbage trucks for residential pickup. Approximately 800 to 1000 customers are picked up each day.

Roll Cart Collection Containers

There are four sizes of roll carts for your convenience. Examples of cart sizes are available in the lobby of City Hall during business hours.

The City Offers four roll cart sizes for garbage customers. Below are the sizes available and the cost for weekly pick-up per month:

  • The fee to increase garbage can size is $25.70
  • There is no cost to reduce your garbage can size.

Call 360-279-4530 to have your garbage can size changed.

Collection Requirements

Containers must be placed out on the curb by 7 am.

Curb Placement

Roll cart containers must be placed within three feet of the curb or street and have a two-foot separation between solid waste roll cart, recycle bin or yard waste container.

Overfilled, Extra Garbage, & Special Pick Up

Overfilled containers will not be emptied; lids must be firmly closed.

Prepaid Extra Garbage Bags

If you have more garbage than will fit in your roll cart, it will only be picked up if contained in a City of Oak Harbor pre-paid garbage bag. These bags can be purchased at Safeway, Haggen Food Grocery Store, Saar's Marketplace, and City of Oak Harbor Utilities Office. The cost is $4.85 per bag.

Special Pickup

Special pickup requests for oversized trash that will not fit in a roll cart or prepaid garbage bag can be arranged by calling the Utilities Office at 360-279-4766 for pricing and scheduling of special pickups.

After the rollcarts are collected they should be put away in a timely manner, to prevent damage or loss.

Additional Reminders

Please keep your containers clean!

During windy weather, the City recommends bagging your garbage prior to putting it in the container to eliminate/reduce trash blowing in your neighborhood.
